EPA Presents Final 2010 Effluent Guidelines Program Plan

The EPA has recently issued the final version of its 2010 Effluent Guidelines Program Plan.

All public comments regarding this plan must be received by Nov. 25, 2011.

The EPA has recently issued the final version of its 2010 Effluent Guidelines Program Plan.

Due to requirements that have been established through the Clean Air Act (CWA), the plan has identified all new or pre-existing industrial dischargers that have been selected for guidelines rulemaking.

Such industrial dischargers include ones that discharge directly to surface waters, as well as ones that discharge to publicly owned treatment works (POTWs),

Additionally, the plan offers a schedule for each of these rulemakings.

The preliminary 2010 Plan was originally published on Dec. 28, 2009. Upon publishing the preliminary plan and carefully considering all public comments, the EPA then developed effluent guidelines and standards for the discharge of wastewater from the Coalbed Methane Extraction (CBM) industry.

The EPA also developed pretreatment requirements regarding discharges of mercury from the Dental industry, as well as wastewater from the Shale Gas Extraction (SGE) industry.

The public can submit their comments in regards to the 2010 Effluent Guidelines Program Plan by email (OW-Docket@epa.gov), mail, or online at this link.

All public comments must be received by Nov. 25, 2011.
