The EPA is currently finalizing the amendments of various requirements that have been developed in recent months regarding monitoring methods for the Petroleum and Natural Gas Systems source category of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting Rule.
As a result, owners and operators of petroleum and natural gas systems facilities will now be allowed to use the best available monitoring methods throughout the final months of 2011 – and will be able to do so without having to submit approval requests to the EPA’s Administrator.
However, owners and operators are not required to submit requests for all emissions sources; the quantity of such sources is expected to increase soon as well.
Additionally, monitoring method request deadlines will likely be extended beyond Dec. 31, 2011 and into the unforeseeable future.
The amendments will be finalized on Sept. 30, 2011.
