These sessions will seek public input to create common-sense, cost-effective GHG standards to be applied to America's largest emitters.
The EPA has set up five listening session to help the agency update the Clean Air Act pollution standards to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution from fossil fuel power plants and petroleum refineries. All sessions are open to the public. Power plants and petroleum refineries are the largest sources of GHG emissions in the country and are responsible for nearly 40 percent of such discharges.
As part of the agreement that was announced December 23, 2010, the EPA will propose GHG standards based on existing technologies for power plants in July 2011 and for refineries in December 2011,. The agency will issue final standards in May 2012 and November 2012, respectively.
Registration is not required to attend. Each session will last two hours and will feature a facilitated round table discussion among stakeholder representatives who have been identified and selected. Each will be followed by a Q&A session. Other pollutants such as mercury and particles will be discussed at the events. For those unable to attend, each session will be live webcast and recorded for later viewing. Visit this Internet link for additional viewing information.
