On Jan. 4, 2011, Gov. Richard D. Snyder of Michigan reorganized the executive branch as one of his first duties as the new governor of the state. One of the changes involved the Department of Natural Resources and Environment. The department was abolished and all of the assests are transferred into the newly formed Department of Natural Resources.
