New owners of gas turbine owners must still report on the
turbines' performance, and maintain records for a few years after. There was
some speculation that the EPA's rule, in effect since 1979, might be changed
due to technological improvements making such monitoring obsolete. Not so,
according to the agency's request in Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010's
Federal Register. The agency, noting it received no comment
on its initial proposal to extend the rule, has asked that the turbines rule, scheduled
to expire Oct. 31, 2010, be renewed. On the plus side, at least the agency
noted this time that there is a clerical/secretarial burden associated with it.
