According to a notice in the Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, Federal
Register, the EPA wants to add nine sites to the Superfund, and
withdraw one site from a previous proposal.
The agency wishes to add the following sites, based on HRS scores of 28.50 or above:
The agency also proposed to withdraw GBF Inc. Dump site in Antion, Calif., giving control of that site to the California Department of Toxic Substances Control.
CERCLA requires the EPA to publish, along with its National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan, a list of national priorities among the known releases or threatened releases of hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants. The National Priorities List (NPL) is intended primarily to guide the agency in determining which sites warrant further investigation as to what CERCLA-financed remedial action(s), if any, may be appropriate.
Comments regarding any of these proposed listings must be submitted (postmarked) on or before Dec. 20, 2010.
