Product Spotlights: Solvent Recovery

Air-Powered Vacuum
This 55-gallon venturi industrial vacuum cleaner cover with HEPA filtration unit was designed to pick up hazardous dusty material in the presence of solvent vapors. The solvent environment created a potential explosion hazard, which required the vacuum to be intrinsically safe. The vacuum was designed to operate on safe compressed air constructed with anti-sparking stainless steel and a static-conductive dust filter.

Greener Chemistry Methods

Separations of sulfonamides using the Polaratherm™total temperature controller have demonstrated that green solvent mixtures can replace toxic and hazardous mobile phase compositions. The controlled experiments exposed the feasibility of using a solvent mixture of ethanol and water as a mobile phase composition instead of an acetronitrile and water mixture by applying a TPLC technique. Preheating of the mobile phase is essential to optimize results.

Worth Treating Twice

Highland's Advanced Secondary Treatment Systems (ASTS) are wastewater trains consisting of media, proprietary clay and granular activated carbon filters. Oil and grease, total petroleum hydrocarbons, dissolved hydrocarbons, solvents and VOCs are removed. The heart of the system is Activated Clay™, the company's new secondary treatment media, and a process that transforms high-grade sodium bentonite into a powerful, selective adsorbent that bonds with hydrocarbons.
