EPA advisory board looking for nominations for experts to triage between the region's environmental priorities.
The EPA Science Advisory Board (SAB) staff office, in Friday, Sept. 24, 2010's Federal Register, announced it is requesting public nominations for technical experts to form an SAB panel to review the interagency Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) Action Plan, which describes restoration priorities, goals, objectives, measurable ecological targets, and specific actions.
The agency is leading the interagency GLRI to protect and restore the chemical, biological, and physical integrity of the Great Lakes. The program is meant to target the most significant environmental problems in the region, as documented in extensive scientific studies and by stakeholder review. These decisions will be culminated in a finished GLRI Action Plan.
Deciding which of those problems gets priority could be a controversial step for the interagency group, and the SAB's request for expertise is meant to provide another level of approval for the agency's triage decisions.
Nominations should be submitted by Oct. 15, 2010.
