Discharge Rules Likely to Be RenewedA procedural notice from the EPA may be the first signal that any future changes to secondary treatment requirements will at least not be in the near future. On Tuesday, the agency submitted to OMB a comment request over the renewal of its Modification of Secondary Treatment Requirements for Discharges into Marine Waters. Its comment period only solicited one comment.
At this stage, it's only an information collection request in compliance with the Paperwork Reduction Act, which requires federal agencies to notify OMB of anything they do that could have a significant economic effect. According to the EPA, it is a request to renew an existing approved collection. However, it was been speculated that the administration was considering a much more extensive review.
