The EPA on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, issued significant new
use rules (SNURs) in the Federal Register under TSCA for two chemical
substances which were the subject of pre-manufacture notices (PMNs).
The two substances are dodecanedioic acid, 1, 12-dihydrazide (CAS No. 4080- 98-2; PMNs P-01-759 and P-05-555) and thiophene, 2,5-dibromo-3-hexyl- (CAS No. 116971-11-0; PMN P-07-283).
The action requires persons who intend to manufacture, import or process either of these two substances for a use that is designated as a significant new use by this final rule to notify the EPA at least 90 days before commencing that activity. In its release, the EPA noted the required notification would provide the agency with the opportunity to evaluate the intended use and, if necessary, to prohibit or limit that activity before it occurs.
This final rule is effective Aug. 7, 2009
