Echoing the call of the last Democrat chief executive,
President-elect Obama is highlighting the environmental industry as one of the
keys to getting America's economy back on track, and is making green
initiatives a big part of his proposed stimulus package.
In an article in Monday's newspaper, the Wall Street Journal reported that 10 percent of the overall stimulus package, or $50 billion, could be put into green projects, including the building of renewable energy plants and improving the nation's electrical grid.
According to the Journal, some members of Congress may push to to include a multiyear extension of a tax credit for investment in wind power, plus another credit for solar-power makers.
The stimulus package is currently being put together in Congress, with a eye toward having it ready for the new president's signature shortly after he takes office in January.
