The Illinois Sports Facilities Authority unveiled a permeable parking lot material that was installed at U.S. Cellular Field, the home of the Chicago White Sox.
The new parking lot covers 265,000 square feet of surface area. This is equivalent to 4.5 football fields and is the largest project of this type to date. The lot's surface is finished with a specially designed permeable material that is recognized as the best management practice by the EPA. The materials are pavers made by Unilock and were placed by Rose Paving Co. The materials function as a water filter to remove 80 to 95 percent of most contaminants from storm water and allow the water to drain into the soils rather than be funneled into the stormwater collection systems and carry contaminants to the waterways in the area.
