Yuchai Machinery Co. Ltd.
awarded BASF Catalysts the Supplier Excellence award for its achievement in
providing its selective catalytic reduction systems for installation on Beijing
transit buses. The technology will enable the buses to be the first in mainland
China to meet the Euro IV emission standards. The systems cut NOX by over 60
percent.
More than 1,000 of the specially equipped buses already are on Beijing and Hangzhou streets, with many more expected to follow. Beijing's transport authorities have announced that they will phase out thousands of older diesel buses and replace most of them with buses that meet Euro IV emission standards before the 2008 Olympic Games.
Other Chinese cities, including Guangzhou, Shanghai and Shenzhen, are also implementing programs to meet the Euro IV standards and are currently evaluating Yuchai engines with BASF catalyst technology.
