The Dublin San Ramon Services District has installed two stationary fuel cell power plants at its wastewater treatment facility in Pleasanton, Calif. to provide the power needs of the plant.
The fuel cells were provided by FuelCell Energy Inc. of Danbury, Conn. The system can draw hydrogen for the fuel cells from a variety of sources, including the biogases produced by the wastewater treatment facility. As a result of the non-combustion process the plant produces negligible amounts of NOX, SOX and CO2. The process also qualifies the plant as a renewable energy resource under federal law.
The power plants operate at 47-percent electrical efficiency, producing 600 kW of power. To learn more about the company that provided the equipment, visit www.fuelcellenergy.com.
