Ford Motor Co. claims to have the most vehicles of any
manufacturer that meet new California auto emission standards.
California has led the way in trying to force auto manufactures to lower vehicle emissions. The California Air Resources Board defined a new standard named Partial Zero Emissions Vehicles (PZEV) and manufactures were required to meet three standards to be certified. The standards are:

- Tailpipe emissions must be 80 percent cleaner with respect to smog-forming emission than the average 2007 model year cars.
- There must be zero gasoline evaporative emissions.
- The manufacturer must warrant that the vehicle will meet the PZEV requirements for 15 years or 150,000 miles.
- The cars listed by the company that meets the requirements are the Focus 2.0L, Fusion 2.3L automatic, Taurus and Taurus X, and the Escape Hybrid.
