On May 10, 2007, the EPA issued a revision to
the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) reporting requirements for dioxin and
dioxin-like compounds under the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know
Act. Facilities that are required to report under TRI must report the mass
quantities for each of the 17 members of the compound categories. The agency
has developed a Form R Schedule 1 for reporting purposes. This will allow the
EPA to convert the mass quantities into toxic equivalency quantities (TEQs) and
more accurately characterize the toxicity of the category. The agency, rather
than the facility, is required to do the calculation. The new reporting
requirements apply to the TRI reporting year beginning Jan. 1, 2008 for which
reports are due July 1, 2009. Visit www.epa.gov/tri/tridata/teq/index.html for
more information.
