Rice University, in partnership with selected Chinese universities and business organizations, has developed a China-U.S. Center for Environmental Remediation and Sustainable Development. The inaugural meeting of the group will be held in Duncan Hall at Rice on February 26, 2007.
The objective of the organization will be to address environmental issues common to the U.S. and China in order to sustain environmental and economic growth. The first efforts of the group will focus in the Tainjin Economic-Technological Development Area and the center of Binhai New Area of Tianjin, both located east of Beijing. While many U.S. companies will find great opportunities to develop new markets in this area, they will also face greater environmental challenges to achieve sustainable development. The Center has established a working relationship with TEDA, and hopes to assist U.S. companies in meeting environmental challenges.
