Shell Oil President John
D. Hofmeister recently delivered a presentation discussing
U.S. energy security for the United States based on a delicate balance between
energy production and consumption with increased supply. The presentation,
sponsored by Industrial Scientific Corp., Oakdale, Pa., and titled "How
the U.S. can Ensure Energy Supply for the Future," professed that a full
array of energy sources will be needed to ensure a healthy energy supply for
our future, emphasizing that the energy industry must apply advanced technology
in order to conduct business in socially, economically and environmentally
responsible ways.
Dick Toro has joined the New Jersey
office of Brown and Caldwell, Walnut Creek, Calif., as Director of
Environmental Services. Toro, a chemical/environmental engineer, has 30 years
of experience in management of air and water pollution, and process
engineering. He was the founder of Recon Systems, now LFR Corp., and has
managed and supported environmental projects across industry.
Bruce C. Gilman,
P.E.,
took over the presidency of the Marine Technology Society (MTS) on Jan. 1,
2007, for a two-year term after serving as president-elect for the past two
years. Gilman, who provides technical and business-management consulting
services to the offshore industry, has been involved in the marine and offshore
industry for over 45 years, with an emphasis on engineering, operations and
business management.
Walter T. Marlowe, P.E., CAE, has been selected as the
new executive director of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI),
Alexandria, Va. Marlowe has 16 years experience and demonstrated increasing
responsibility in association management. He has served in a variety of staff leadership
roles at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and National Society of
Professional Engineers (NSPE).
Daniel Johnson, vice president of SCS
Engineers and principal of the company's San Diego office, has been selected as
a member of the Brownfields Revitalization Advisory Group. The advisory group,
founded by the director of the
Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), has tasked its advisory group
with improving the DTSC's current approaches, and identifying new opportunities
for brownfields revitalization. The committee's first meeting was held on Dec.
7, 2006. In 1992, Johnson founded the San Diego-based environmental consulting
firm Environmental Business Solutions, which merged with SCS Engineers in 2002
and formally adopted the company's name in early 2005.
Siemens Energy & Automation Inc., Atlanta,
announced that Tom Kopanski, currently vice
president of the Automation and Motion Division has been named the new vice
president of Power Distribution and Controls Division. Raj Batra, vice president of the Automotive
and Aerospace Center of Competence, will fill Kopanski's vacancy. These
appointments became effective, Jan. 15, 2007. Kopanski joined the company in
1992 as manager, training & promotions for AC Controls, becoming a vice
president in July 2002. Batra joined Siemens in 1993 and held a variety of
high-level sales and industry positions as Senior Account Manager, Automotive
Business Unit Manager and General Motors Global Account Manager before being appointed
vice president – Automotive Center of Competence in 2002.
