State and federal regulators reached a major settlement with the Hartford-based Metropolitan District (IMDC) to significantly reduce illegal discharges of raw sewage throughout the Hartford, Conn. area. The releases originated from the district's wastewater collection system.
The MDC is a non-profit municipal corporation and is responsible for providing drinking water, water treatment and water pollution control to eight area communities.
Under the agreement, the MDC will reduce illegal raw sewage overflows that previously discharged into area waters as well as pay a fine of $850 thousand.
