USFilter has promoted William Scully to the new position of director of e-marketing, in charge of developing and instituting e-marketing programs and tools throughout the company. Karen DeCampli is promoted to the position of municipal market manager, in charge of leading the company’s municipal water and wastewater market team.

Landmark Technologies Inc. has appointed Kurt Ray as project scientist, Dwayne M. Keagy as senior environmental consultant, Gale Criner as senior civil engineering consultant and Wayne R. Griffin as vice president and director of land surveying.

Awards

Five Michigan builders have been awarded grants from the state’s Five Star Home Grant program to build energy-efficient houses. The recipients are: Coulter Builders, L.L.C.; Country Construction; Pant Builders, Inc.; R.F.B. Home Builders; and Walloon Lake Properties, L.L.C.

Kidd Mining Division has received a Return on Environment Partnership Award from BetzDearborn for removing zinc and other heavy metals from acid mine drainage, while reducing operating costs by $110,000.

Dr. R. Rhodes Trussell, senior vice president with MWH, has been awarded the 2001 Donald R. Boyd Award by the Association of Metropolian Water Agencies in recognition of extraordinary personal service in the drinking water quality field. AMWA noted Dr. Trussell’s service with the National Academy of Sciences, as a member and Chair of EPA’s Science Advisory Board’s Drinking Water Committee and his research on contaminants and drinking water treatment.

The U.S. Navy Atlantic Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, has awarded a contract to the Environmental Services division of Michael Baker Jr. Inc. to provide services in support of the Navy’s Petroleum Storage Tank and Oil Spill Response and Planning programs.

For outstanding and innovative efforts in helping clean the nation’s air, EPA Administrator Christie Whitman recently honored 47 local and state governments, industries and citizens groups at the second Annual Clean Air Excellence Awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. The five categories of awards and awardees:

The Clean Air Technology Award went to Metropolitan Transit Authority New York City Transit Department of Buses; CSX Transportation Inc.; Orbital Engine Corporation Inc.; Intel Corporation; Lehigh University; Georgia-Pacific Corp.; and Gibson Technologies Inc.

The Community Development/Re-development Award went to Playa Capital Company, LLC; Con Edison; and Clean Air Communities.

The Education/Outreach Award went to Northeast Sustainable Energy Association; Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District; Hearth Products Association; Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals; North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Division of Air Quality; Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission; Palm Tran; and Minnesota E85 Team.

The Regulatory/Policy Innovations Award went to Indiana Department of Environmental Management; Puget Sound Clean Air Agency and partners; Merck & Co. Inc.; and the City of Los Angeles Environmental Affairs Department.

Acquisitions

FLS miljo Inc. acquired Fuller Bulk Handling Corporation’s Air Pollution Control activities. The merger will combine all FLS Industries Air Pollution Control activities within one entity and will result in increased focus on the North American Environmental Systems and Global Aftermarket & Service related markets.

The Carlisle Group acquired the Photovac Division of PerkinElmer Instruments.

George Fischer Inc. and Valex Corp. reached an agreement in which Valex became a North American distributor for George Fischer Piping Systems.
