A recent investigation reveals that the U.S. may be exporting toxic electronic wastes, including computers, overseas. Reportedly, workers in Third World countries sift through the parts to salvage any that may be valuable, exposing workers to any number of unknown toxic hazards.

The organizations investigating this activity are the Basel Action Network (BAN) and Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition (SVTC) with support from Toxics Link India, Greenpeace China and SCOPE (Pakistan). The report is titled: “Exporting Harm: The High-Tech Trashing of Asia” and the authors hope that making American companies and lawmakers aware will prompt a larger U.S. electronic waste recycling effort.
