Correction

There was an inadvertent omission in the June article titled Aerobic Bioremediation Progresses to the Next Level. The following two paragraphs should have been in place of the two in the middle of page 17 following the subtitle Oxygen release products. Please take note of this change. Corrections have been made to the online version of the article:

Since the late 1980s, bioremediation products that contain up to 12 percent oxygen with pH ranging to 11.5 have been available. These products are designed to slowly release oxygen into water.

There is one bioremediation product on the market that differs in several significant ways from other oxygen releasing products. It contains approximately 18 percent +/- active slow release oxygen. It also contains macronutrients, micronutrients, pH buffering agents, biodegradable surfactants, lubricants and wetting agents. Such components promote microbial proliferation and growth, facilitate the mechanical pumping and distribution of the remediation mixture, and promote soil desorption and transport of microbial nutrients. Moisture is required to properly induce aerobic microbial activity within the soil and control the release of oxygen. Certain biodegradable horticultural products can hold up to 100 times their weight in water, to retain moisture in soils.
