
In all, 62 compounds were identified. All of the regulated compounds were within guidelines, but many have no standards. Determining the potential long-term effects of the chemicals, their sources and developing treatment methods would likely take many years and millions of dollars. The chemical nonylphenol, known to cause problems with fish reproduction and growth, is a remnant of detergent and was found in high concentrations in urban areas.
