Heavy duty pump ideal for slurry applications

ITT Flygt Corporation recently introduced a high-performance, heavy duty, submersible pump designed to handle various types of slurries. Designated as the 5150, the pump is ideal for use in power plants for bottom ash, refineries for petroleum coke, steel manufacturing, and most any other application in which solid granules are present. ITT Flygt radically simplified its design for the 5150, reducing the number of parts and building each of these from high chrome. The slurry pump also utilizes ITT Flygt's unique Spin-out feature that expels abrasive particles from the seal chamber, and their Plug-in seal system for fast, easy seal replacement.

This butterfly valve keeps a low profile

For space restricted applications GemcoValve now offers a low-profile butterfly valve. Measuring only 1.5 inches in thickness, the SB valve is compliant with the USDA 3A requirements for manual cleaned butterfly valves in dry powder applications. Three models of the butterfly valve are available. The SB-1 valve is designed so that the top half can be welded in position. The body clamp secures the bottom half. It can be removed in seconds for inspection and cleaning. The SB-2 design allows the top half to be clamped in position. The SB-3 is clamped in position and comes with a third clamp on the outlet for the attachment of accessories such as sleeves.

USFilter Dragon Dryer™ brings the heat

The Dragon Dryer™ indirect rotating chamber biosolids dryer is an efficient heat drying system, designed to minimize the consumption of energy. The dryer is capable of processing one to 100 wet tons per day, per unit at 12 to 27 percent solids. By drying sludge cake with the Dragon, municipalities not only reduce their volume of sludge by four to one, but also produce a beneficial Class A product. The Dragon Dryer offers a dual indirect heat source, complete isolation of the sludge in the drying chamber from combustion gases, a single-pass system that avoids the possibility of recontamination and balling of sludge, and over 15 safety interlocks, which the dryer can safely operate unattended.

Biodegradable film replaces stretch wraps

A patent pending Cortec film provides a biodegradable replacement for stretch films. Eco Wrap is a combination of compostable polyester film and a biodegradable cling coating. The product provides superior strength for wrapping applications and offers exceptional shelf life. After use, Eco Wrap will biodegrade in a standard compost within a few months, turning into water and CO2. It can be used with conventional stretch film equipment and thanks to its remarkable strength, only a simple adjustment on the tensioning setting is needed to do so. The film is ideal for a variety of applications in palletizing, packaging, masking, bundling, wrapping and baling.

A FAST solution for food processor's wastewater

On-site and out of mind, Smith & Loveless' Modular FAST (fixed activated sludge treatment) aerobic treatment system uses the FAST process to lower BOD and TSS levels in high strength wastewater streams. This technology was designed specifically to meet the demands of food industry wastewater. It provides safe, on-site pretreatment for flows up to 150,000 gpd, allowing discharge to a leach field, lagoon, constructed wetland or city sewer. By combining three biological processes in one tank - aeration, clarification and digestion - the fixed-film reactor with submerged media capably treats high BOD levels and eliminates the need for a separate clarifier.
