Remediation and Earth Moving Equipment

November 2003 Product Spotlight

Sweet approach to remediation

Sometimes, the chemicals required for remediation don't have to be complex, expensive compounds. ARCADIS, based near Denver, Colo., has begun using what amounts to a household item to remove dangerous chemicals. By injecting natural syrups such as molasses into groundwater, ARCADIS has been able to clean up PCE, uranium and perchlorate. The company is continually testing new techniques in bioremediation and specializes in creating site-specific, cost-effecting solutions for site cleanups.

NaOCl pumps a tough customer against chemicals

Progressive cavity pumps in exotic materials, resistant to aggressive chemicals from Seepex were designed for metering NaOCl, FeCl3, H2SO4, NaOH, HCl and strong acids and bases. Pump bodies are constructed of HDPE or cast metal with Halar® linings. Wetted rotating parts can be constructed of AISI 316ti, duplex stainless steel, Hastelloy® or titanium. The pumps do not need pulsation dampeners or pressure regulators, will not gas or vapor lock and have a low NPSHR.

Vacuum pump for soil remediation

The Busch Mink is a rotary claw-type, positive displacement pump designed for either pressure or vacuum applications. Vacuum or pressure is provided by two non-contacting, claw-type rotors in an oil free chamber while wearing parts are thermally separated from the pumping chamber, leading to longer pump life.
