Acromag Inc., Wixom, Mich. was recently accepted as an associate member by the Control and Information System Integrators Association (CSIA). Many of the company's BusWorks® distributed I/O solutions were certified for interoperability to aid system integrators developing multi-vendor systems. Its Ethernet I/O modules successfully passed Ethernet/IP and Modbus/TCP conformance tests performed by an ODVA-authorized test service provider while the Modbus/TCP test was performed at the University of Michigan's test lab. Air Products, Lehigh Valley, Pa., and H2scan Corp., Valencia, Calif., announced the signing of a collaboration agreement to work on a development effort related to solid-state chemical sensors for applications in hydrogen production, refineries and chemical process facilities. The development work will focus on providing sensors to operate inside process lines or vessels at the company's production facilities, providing real-time hydrogen concentration data from the process gas flow. Environmental Data Resources Inc. (EDR), Milford, Conn., announced key changes to its management team. Gerry Tsui has been named chief technology officer. Jay Gaines is EDR's new vice president of marketing, and Dianne Crocker has been named senior economist and managing director of the company's Market Research Group. Tsui will be responsible for developing and implementing a technology strategy for the company. Gaines will be crafting the company's overall communications strategy. Crocker will be responsible for creating subscription-based market research services and developing industry-specific seminars and conferences, while continuing to serve as editor of ESA Report. Galbreath Inc., Winamac, Ind., recently received ISO 9001:2000 certification from American Systems Registrar of Grand Rapids, Mich. The certification covers all products manufactured and sold by the company at both its Winamac, Ind. and Ider, Ala. locations. To meet ISO 9001:2000 standards, Galbreath, a division of Wastequip Inc., had to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products that meet customer and applicable regulatory requirements and aim to enhance customer satisfaction. Exelon Nuclear, Wilmington, N.C., has extended GE Energy's Nuclear business a commitment to purchase adjustable speed drive (ASD) units for its fleet of boiling water reactors. In order to boost plant efficiency and performance, GE will supply dual bank ASD systems for reactors at Exelon Nuclear generating stations in Illinois, a deployment that could be extended to retrofit other reactors in the Exelon fleet. Infilco Degremont, Richmond, Va., has been awarded a contract bid and negotiated by Parsons E&C, on behalf of Progress Energy, to design and supply a flue gas desulfurization wastewater treatment system for Progress Energy's Asheville Generating Station in Arden, N.C. Ionics Inc., Watertown, Mass., announced that it has been awarded a $7.5 million contract by Deer Creek Energy Ltd., a Calgary, Alberta-based company engaged in development of oil-sands deposits through steam injection and mining extraction methods. RAE Systems Inc., Sunnyvale, Calif., announced that it has received European ATEX certification for EntryRAE, a personal gas monitor for OSHA compliant, hazardous confined space entry (CSE) work. The E.U. Parliament and Council's ATEX certification provides technical requirements for equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, and manufacturers who apply its provisions are able to sell their equipment anywhere in Europe without any further requirements. Houston-based Separation Systems Consultants Inc. (SSCI) has been awarded a $1.2 million contract with the Texas Department of Transportation for environmental engineering services. SSCI will perform hazardous materials initial site assessments, Phase II environmental site assessments, risk assessment modeling and determination, preparation of remedial action plans, and remediation system design, as well as engineering support. Solvay Chemicals Inc. announced its intention to increase off-list prices for all grades of hydrogen peroxide effective March 1, 2005 or as contracts allow. Increases of $0.05 USD per pound in the U.S. and $133.00 CDN per etric tonne in Canada for 100 percent bases hydrogen peroxide will be added. Last December, Severn Trent Laboratories Inc., Amherst, N.Y. opened its 24th U.S. service center in the Raleigh/Durham, N.C. area, bringing its testing capabilities to the doorsteps of hundreds of its customers. The service centers provide clients with local access to the company's 31 laboratories, as well as courier services, delivery of clean sample containers and sample pick-up. The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), based in Silver Spring, Md., has joined with representatives of other renewable energy industries to advocate for an extension and increase of the tax credits for these energy sources, which were included in the American Jobs Creation Act, H.R. 4520, signed into law by President Bush on Oct. 22, 2004. The association has led a long-standing effort to advocate for tax credits for landfill gas and waste-to-energy projects. The program helps industries and municipalities that cannot afford to maintain or replace old dewatering equipment to rebuild, refurbish or optimize its filter presses, belt presses and other equipment to regain efficiency, throughput and productivity. Victaulic Co., Easton, Pa., recently purchased the distribution rights and the assets of the mechanical grooved pipe coupling and fittings business bearing the Victaulic name from Crane Ltd., a U.K. subsidiary of Crane Co.
