The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently selected the Merrimack Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) in Merrimack, N.H., to receive its 2002 National First Place Biosolids Management Award for mid-sized wastewater treatment facilities. Part of the EPA's Biosolids Exemplary Management Awards Program, the award recognizes the Merrimack facility as one of the first moderately-sized WWTFs in the United States to develop an Environmental Management System for Biosolids by using a carefully integrated operating program.
The Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers (ACHMM) and the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) have both recognized Joseph M. Golden, Jr., CET, CHMM, of Malcolm Pirnie, Inc., for his outstanding efforts at the World Trade Center site in the immediate aftermath of the September 11th attack. Mr. Golden was presented the 2002 Hazardous Materials Manager of the Year award at the ACHMM National meeting in Louisville, Ky., and then the the "Rachel Carson Award" at the AIHA National meeting in San Diego, Calif.
