Accutest Laboratories, Dayton, N.J., has expanded its corporate headquarters to include a redesign and enhancement of its laboratories. At a recent career day attended by representatives from New Jersey colleges and universities, Accutest staff discussed the role of the environmental testing laboratory in the environmental industry and outlined the many current and future opportunities at the company for graduates entering environmental science professions. Babcock & Wilcox Co. (B&W), Barberton, Ohio, has signed a 10-year wet electrostatic precipitator (WESP) license with F.L. Smidth Airtech Inc. (FLS-AT). The license covers FLS-AT vertical and horizontal flow WESPs for large electric utility power plants. In addition, B&W has been awarded a process design contract for a 125 MWe forced oxidation wet flue gas desulfurization system for the Qianqing thermal power plant, unit two, in the People"s Republic of China. Motorola, Inc., Schaumburg, Ill., along with Engelhard Corp., Iselin, N.J., and the University of Michigan (U-M), have won an Advanced Technology Program (ATP) award to develop a miniature catalytic fuel processor to provide power for a wide range of fuel-cell-based portable electronic devices, such as laptop computers, cell phones and two-way radios. The Motorola/Engelhard/U-M collaboration was one of 16 projects to earn funding under the ATP, which is administered by the Commerce Department"s National Institute of Standards and Technology. Pavilion, Austin, Texas, has announced that the state of Michigan has approved the company's software CEM application for NOx emissions monitoring under the EPA's relative accuracy test audit guidelines, and that Michigan Ethanol LLC will be the first facility in the state to install a software predictive emissions monitoring solution for stack NOx emissions. In addition, Pavilion has been selected by Atofina Petrochemicals SA to supply advanced process control and optimization technologies for a second high-density polyethylene unit. Scott Specialty Gases, Plumsteadville, Pa., recently achieved ISO 9001: 2000 certification to help ensure customer satisfaction with Scott products and services. Facilities receiving certification include Scott"s Eastern Regional plant in Pennsylvania, and its California and New Jersey plants.
