The companies in pollution industries

DigitalGlobe, Longmont, Colo., has released its latest information product, DGStormWater, designed for city and county GIS coordinators, utility companies, engineering firms and flood-mapping organizations. DGStormWater leverages DigitalGlobe's high-resolution QuickBird satellite imagery to calculate the impervious surface area of a property in days versus months. The product also provides source data for hydrological and hydrographic modeling, and floodplain and watershed management. Visit www.digitalglobe.com

Emerson, Austin, Texas, has extended its PlantWeb® digital plant architecture to provide alerts that predict operations issues with critical mechanical and process equipment, enabling manufacturers to better prevent abnormal situations. The new alert capability enhances Emerson's ability to engineer and deliver real-time operations and performance information from manufacturing facilities. This empowers manufacturers to prevent and minimize costly plant shutdowns by implementing corrective actions before problems arise. Visit www.gotoemerson.com.

ENSR Intl., Westford, Mass., announced the availability of its white paper, EPA's Revised BART Guidelines Affect Thousands of Sources is now available through www.ensr.com/request. The paper discusses proposed federal amendments to the Regional Haze Rule that is expected to be final by April 2005. Stationary air emission sources in 26 industrial categories must be evaluated for eligibility of best available retrofit technology or BART by 2007. Visit www.ensr.com.

Fuel-Tech N.V., Stamford, Conn., has received orders to supply NOXOut®, (pronounced "nox-out") air-pollution control systems to an industrial plant in the U.S. and a municipal solid waste incinerator in the U.K. Another order includes a NOXOut Ultra™ system for two municipal solid waste incinerators in France, representing the first such installation in Europe. Visit www.fueltechnv.com.

GE Jenbacher, a division of GE Energy, has sold its 500th gas engine in the Netherlands to a rose grower that will use the new system to generate light, heat and CO2 for its greenhouse operations. Fueled by natural gas, the cogeneration system will have a total electrical and thermal output of 2.4 megawatts, and an overall efficiency of 93.7 percent. Visit www.gepower.com.

Perma-Fix, Gainesville, Fla., has been awarded a contract to treat and dispose of 4,500 cubic feet of radioactive and hazardous waste generated from research and development activities. Perma-Fix has worked for the past three years to develop an innovative treatment approach to accommodate the complex nature of such wastes. Treatment under the contract will began in July and is planned for completion by mid-2005. Visit www.perma-fix.com.

Precision Q Systems LLC, Columbus, Ohio, has launched a new emissions control and fuel efficiency Oscom system, model NGEA-4-3000, designed to deliver up to a 70 percent drop in NOX emissions and up to a 5 percent increase in fuel efficiency. The system utilizes oscillating combustion technology and reduces NOX by creating successive fuel-rich and lean zones of combustion within the flame envelope. At optimal frequencies and amplitudes, the flame temperature is reduced, resulting in lower NOX while maintaining the same energy input. Visit www.low-nox.com.

Save the World Inc., Los Angeles, has released a new Cat-Mate anti-pollution device designed to cut toxic engine emissions by up to 92 percent. Independent tests conducted at the Hong Kong Exhaust Emission Laboratory, one of Asia's leading testing centers, found that Cat-Mate cut engine emissions of NOX by 91.7 percent. Emissions of carbon monoxide were reduced by 67.9 percent and total hydrocarbon emissions by 62.6 percent. Visit www.savetheworldair.com.

Siemens, New York, has completed its acquisition of USFilter Corp. from the French parent company, Veolia Environnement, Paris. The $993 million acquisition positions Siemens as the market leader in the water and wastewater treatment business in North America. With annual sales of $1.2 billion, USFilter has 157 locations worldwide and 5,800 employees, including 5,000 in the U.S. The worldwide product, system and service business of USFilter will become part of Siemens' $4 billon Industrial Solutions and Services group as a new "Water Technologies" division. Company headquarters are in Warrendale, Pa. Visit www.siemens.com/usfilter.

Solucorp Industries, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., has contractually joined the consortium of members interested in the combustion of sub-bituminous coal. The consortium, organized by the Energy and Environmental Research Center (EERC), consists of and is funded by a select group of major utilities and engineering firms. The EERC will conduct and evaluate Solucorp's Molecular Bonding System, a mercury-control technology for utility power plants that also has been used to treat heavy metals in contaminated soil and sludge. Final results from the tests are expected in November. Visit www.solucorpltd.com.

URS Corp., San Francisco, has been awarded indefinite delivery and indefinite quantity contracts to provide environmental remediation and construction services at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. The 10-year operations and maintenance contract calls upon URS to operate environmental remediation sites on the base or on adjoining properties. Visit www.urscorp.com.

Wheelabrator Air Pollution Control Inc., Pittsburgh, has been awarded a contract to supply a wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) system for Western Kentucky Energy Corp.'s K.C. Coleman Generating Station in Hawesville, Ky. The system is designed to remove 95 percent of the SO2 from three units, which generate a total of 485 megawatts. Visit www.urscorp.com.

WOW Energies, Houston, has received a patent for its Cascading Closed Loop Cycle renewable energy system. The system efficiently converts waste heat to power, reducing the flue gas temperature to near ambient temperatures where vaporized pollutants are forced to condense out of the flue gas as a liquid or solid. Remaining SOX and NOX is removed using a low-temperature, final flue gas cleanup system that circulates a dilute water solution of sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide in a scrubber, which then reacts to form stable salt solutions.
