The calculator allows users to quickly translate greenhouse gas reductions from units typically used to report reductions (e.g., metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent) into terms that are easier to conceptualize, such as number of cars not driven for one year. Applications include developing a greenhouse gas reduction strategy or communicating reduction targets to the public and other stakeholders.
The foundation supports efforts by the cooperation to develop the online calculator in partnership with the EPA and U.S. Agency for International Development. The cooperation provides a framework for programs supported by the federal government to promote international technology cooperation to address global climate change.
