Mitsui Chemicals, Inc., Austin, Texas, has selected Pavilion Technologies Inc. Process Perfecter to provide advanced process control and optimization at Mitsui’s new polypropylene production facility (GPP plant) in Takaishi City, Osaka, Japan. Mitsui selected Pavilion’s polymer solution to stabilize operations, secure product quality and minimize transition loss, with a minimum operating staff. By constructing the new GPP plant, Mitsui will strengthen its global competitiveness and reinforce Osaka Works as a key propylene center. See www.mitsui-chem.co.jp or www.pavtech.com.

Nathaniel Energy Corp., Castle Rock, Colo., has completed Acquisition of Keyes Helium and related assets from El Paso Corp. This strategic acquisition of Keyes Helium, along with previously announced transactions, provides Nathaniel with helium-related assets and positions the company to potentially become one of the largest independent helium producers in the United States, larger due to its unique ability to decrease production costs by creating lower-cost energy and nitrogen. Polimeri Europa, Austin, Texas, has selected Pavilion Technologies Inc.’s Process Perfecter® advanced process control and optimization software for its Dunkerque, France facility. The installation will provide Polimeri Europa with enhanced quality control and plant performance for in-grade and transition operations for its linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) reactor. The software will improve the profitability of the production of 120,000 metric tons of LLDPE a year at the Dunkerque facility. See www.polimerieuropa.it or www.pavtech.com.

Severn Trent Laboratories, Inc. (STL), Ft. Washington, Penn., has opened six new service centers throughout the United States: Decatur, Ill.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Portland, Ore.; Boston, Mass.; Baton Rouge, La.; and Puerto Rico. With a total of 16 service centers, STL also provides local access to a nationwide network of 28 environmental testing laboratories. See www.stl-inc.com.

Shimadzu Scientific Instruments, Inc., Columbia, Md., has expanded an existing agreement with Fisher Scientific to include marketing and distribution of Shimadzu’s UV and fluorescence Spectroscopy instruments, Particle Size Analyzers and Flexural Testing instruments. The agreement will further capitalize on Fisher’s sales and supply-chain infrastructure and Shimadzu’s technology to provide additional products and services to the scientific community.

Smith & Loveless Inc., Lenexa, Kansas, and Hydranautics, Oceanside, Calif., jointly announced that that Hydranautics B.V., the European subsidiary of Hydranautics, has purchased the Smith & Loveless Inc., United Kingdom affiliate. With this acquisition, Hydranautics has acquired the majority interest in Kalsep, Ltd., a United Kingdom company in Camberly engaged in the engineering of membrane-based water treatment systems for municipal and industrial applications. USFilter, Plainfield, Ill., has been awarded a contract to provide a turnkey zero-liquid discharge water treatment facility for Calpine Corp.’s new 600-MW Rocky Mountain Energy Center near Hudson, Colo. The water treatment system will soften 4,000 gallons per minute (gpm) of raw water. USFilter is also supplying the plant’s demineralization equipment, which will provide 400-gpm of purified water. XP Software, Portland, Ore., has been selected to supply the Federal Emergency Management Agency with its XP-SWMM hydrodynamic modeling software for use in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). XP-SWMM traditionally has been used to model or analyze watersheds and collection systems in rural or urban settings. NFIP acceptance will add additional value for existing clients and further extend the company’s market reach into the insurance, floodplain management and government sectors. To further extend XP Software’s commitment to floodplain management, the company will host information booths at Environmental and Water Resource conference in Philadelphia, Pa., June 23-26.
