The FII Membrane Bioreactor (FII-MBR) combines conventional activated sludge treatment with a membrane liquid-solid separation process. Our design features a flat-sheet ultrafiltration (UF) membrane with a nominal pore size of 0.04 um. This provides an absolute physical barrier that rejects all suspended solids and pathogens. A vacuum pressure of 0.1 bar (1.5 psi) is required for permeation. The UF flat-sheet membrane is equipped with a fine-bubble air diffuser, which allows for optimum air scouring and efficient oxygen credit. The membranes are back flushable so no chemicals are required for maintenance cleaning.

Produced effluent has a BOD of less than 5, and exceeds government discharge regulations. In addition, treated water meets local stream-specific standards for surface water discharge or can be reused for landscape or agricultural irrigation.
