The
EPA on Thursday announced what it called strict new standards for gas-powered
lawn equipment and marine engines. The regulations will take effect in 2010 and
2011.
The
EPA on Wednesday added six new hazardous waste sites to, and removed one from,
the National Priorities List of Superfund sites. The agency also proposed to
add 11 other sites to the list.
While
the storm has decreased to a Category 1 hurricane as of Tuesday morning, the
potential for extensive damage has alarmed federal and state governments intent
on avoiding a disaster on par with that caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
