ABUTEC’s Mine Gas Incinerator

ABUTEC worked in cooperation with leading carbon developers and mine operators to install the first Mine Gas Incinerator in the US.  Traditionally, mines will vent methane from the underground formations.  This unburned hydrocarbon has a 21 times more harmful effect on the environment than CO2, the traditional measuring tool of regulations and advocates.  By combusting the methane in ABUTEC’s Mine Gas Incinerator, more than 99.99% of the hydrocarbons are converted into CO2 and water.  This has two primary benefits.  First, this reduces the environmental impact by 21 times.  Second, this allows the Mine Operator to sell and trade the carbon equivalents on a voluntary open market.  By taking advantage of ABUTEC’s Mine Gas Incinerator, the Mine Operator is creating a win-win scenario by helping save the environment and creating a substantial revenue stream for years to come.
