A first-time report by the consulting firms OTM Consulting and energy business analysts Douglas-Westwood foresees major growth in the water sector over the next five years. The Produced Water Gamechanger Report 2010-2014 estimates the total market opportunity for final-state produced water treatment systems to be approximately $4.3 billion in that time period. The report also puts the market at $9.8 billion for topside produced water re-injection systems for the next five years.

The report, which is purchasable from the companies' websites, notes several new technologies in treatment, minimization, separation and re-use, and case studies for their implementation.
