Thermo Electron Environmental Instruments Division

A World leader in high-tech instruments, Thermo Electron Corporation helps life science, laboratory, and industrial customers advance scientific knowledge, enable drug discovery, improve manufacturing processes and protect people and the environment with instruments, scientific equipment and integrated software solutions. Based in Waltham, Massachusetts, Thermo Electron has revenues of more than $2 billion, and employs approximately 11,000 people in 30 countries worldwide.

The Environmental Instruments division serves five primary markets with a broad array of products and services. We are committed to being the global provider of choice in applications where our market knowledge, application expertise, and instrument technology can help our customers protect people and the environment, with a particular focus on regulatory compliance, product quality, worker safety, and process efficiency.

Air Quality Instruments are used for environmental compliance and process monitoring. Over the years our product offering has expanded from individual gaseous criteria pollutant analyzers to encompass a broad range of particulate monitors, toxic gas sensors, VOC analyzers and completely integrated ambient and stack monitoring systems.

The Air Quality business most recently announced a new stack gas monitor, the Mercury Freedom System, which will be deployed to help the domestic power-generation industry comply with strict new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards aimed at dramatically reducing mercury emissions from power plants. The Mercury Freedom, which is based on atomic fluorescence analysis, provides continuous monitoring of gases emitted from power plant stacks to detect the presence of mercury, down to levels of parts per trillion.

Industrial Hygiene instruments are used by a variety of people- from industrial hygienists to first responders- in a wide range of situations. We provide a comprehensive line of gas detectors for monitoring and controlling the presence of combustible and toxic gases for worker and plant safety. Product types range from simple hand-held, general-purpose portable equipment to more sophisticated fixed systems.

Water Analysis products offer a wide array of both laboratory analysis and process environments, our water and aqueous solution products include pH and ion-selective electrolyte (ISE) and other technologies. These products determine the make-up and quality of aqueous solutions from food and pharmaceutical applications from water and wastewater, by measuring their pH, specific ion concentration, dissolved oxygen and conductivity.

Radiation Measurement and Protection products provide a first line of defense against radiation for first responders, border control and government agencies. We also continue to develop reliable cost effective radiation monitoring solutions for the nuclear power industry, laboratories, nuclear medicine and pharmaceutical research, as well as environmental recycling and waste treatment. Products include hand-held survey meters, environmental monitors, automated contamination detection systems, and networked industrial process systems governing nuclear operating facilities.

Our Security products include a comprehensive range of fixed and portable instruments used for chemical, radiation, and explosives detection. These products are used in airports, embassies, cargo facilities, border crossings, and other high-threat facilities. They are also used in emergency response teams and are critical in the detection and prevention of terrorist acts, as well as for emergency and forensic response to such events.
